CIVIL SITE ENGINEER (LAND DEVELOPMENT)
North Haven and/or Farmington, Connecticut
Godfrey Hoffman Hodge, LLC (GHH) is seeking a Civil Site Engineer to join our team in our North Haven and/or Farmington offices.
GHH is a long-established Connecticut consulting firm providing integrated civil engineering and land surveying services for land development projects across the region. Our work spans commercial, institutional, and mixed-use development—from urban infill redevelopment to complex site design in environmentally sensitive areas.
Our engineers are directly involved in projects from initial concept planning through permitting and final design, working closely with clients, municipal agencies, and our in-house surveying team. Unlike larger firms where roles are narrowly defined, GHH engineers contribute across the full project lifecycle—helping move projects from idea to approved plans and into construction.
What You’ll Work On
At GHH, civil engineers are exposed to a wide range of project types and technical challenges, including:
Urban redevelopment and adaptive reuse projects on constrained sites
Commercial and retail site development with complex circulation and utility coordination
Stormwater management design, including subsurface systems and low-impact solutions
Feasibility studies and site planning for mixed-use and residential developments
Projects requiring coordination with Planning & Zoning, Inland Wetlands, and DOT
Engineers are actively involved in problem-solving—from early-stage site analysis through detailed design and regulatory approvals—often working closely with architects, developers, and public agencies.
Responsibilities
- Prepare site development plans including layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion control
- Perform stormwater management design and hydrologic/hydraulic analysis
- Participate in feasibility studies and concept planning
- Support municipal permitting processes (Planning & Zoning, Inland Wetlands, etc.)
- Coordinate with clients, architects, landscape architects, and regulatory agencies
- Collaborate with in-house land surveying team
- Assist in preparing construction-ready documents
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain
- Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure (PE candidates encouraged to apply)
- Experience with AutoCAD and Carlson Civil Suite preferred
- Interest in site design, stormwater management, and land development
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Why Join GHH
- Work on diverse projects across Connecticut, from urban redevelopment to large-scale site development
- Hands-on involvement in all phases of a project—not just a single piece
- Direct exposure to clients, permitting authorities, and decision-making processes
- Collaborative environment integrating civil engineering and land surveying
- Opportunity to work on technically challenging sites requiring creative design solutions
- Smaller firm setting that supports growth, initiative, and meaningful responsibility
- Support for EIT certification and PE licensure
- Culture that values flexibility, respect, and work-life balance (and dogs!)
Compensation
$70,000 – $120,000 annually, depending on experience and licensure.
Apply
Interested candidates should submit a resume to careers@ghhllc.com
